RESULTS 2011

Round 42 MRPA, Sunday December 11, 2011 @ Wade Court, Sale.

Unfortunately the rain and traffic marred the final criterium for the season. The A Grade raced for about 20 minutes before the light shower and traffic which had disrupted breakaways by Arnup, then Nick Jehu called a halt to proceedings. Rob Murray and John Verey in B grade had fallen ahead of the A graders.

Dashwood, Mates and  Mackintosh continued to race in B grade finishing the race in that order.

In C grade Bodey attempted a breakaway but was chased down by Read and Murray. Read and Murray finished the race half a lap ahead of Smith and Bodey to complete the season, Read taking the final points.

Westerly winds of 35km/hr tested the wheel sucking skills of the evenly matched riders in each of the three grades.

A grade saw the return of Mic O'Conner who dominated the A grade, pleasantly surprising himself after having taken a year or so off racing. The four riders worked well together around the Wade court circuit, facing a head wind of 24 - 35 km/hr down the finishing straight.

B grade was a close tussle, Dean Mackintosh just strong enough in the final sprint to grab a one point lead over the ever improving Murray. Mackintosh, Murray and Cameron had left the trio of Verey, Mates and Rankin behind after the first sprint. They battled on trailing for an agonising 6 - 9 seconds for another 10 minutes until the well travelled Rankin dropped off.

C grade was blown away by Rob Murray (no relation to Dave). Rob aquitted himself well in his first criterium, Grant Smith riding strongly to take second from Read and Bodey.

Round 22 MRPA - Tinamba Handicap 41 km road race, June 18, 2011  Photos on Flikr

On a cold, windy yet sunny day 9 riders met for the handicappers consideration. Phil Brown officiated and he sent off Kevin Read and Grant Smith on limit. 7 minutes later Gary Lucas, Aaron Wain and Simon Whitford left and then Nick Jehu followed about a minute later. 
Another 11 minutes later Mike Renehan, Ben Dowsett and David Arnup started on Scratch.              Handicap Winner:

Lucas, Wain and Whitford worked well together and caught the  limit pair of Read and Smith before
the first lap was completed. Renehen, then Dowsett came unhooked from the Arnup steam train on the second lap at Blores Hill. Nick Jehu put in a great effort riding on his own (not his choice!). Wain and Lucas dropped Whitford on Stone hill fighting it out in a sprint to the line. Wain showed that he not only has hill climbing skills, he can sprint.

Pleasant autumn riding conditions met the 16 riders for the picturesque 13 kilometre climb up the Jamieson Road from Licola. David Arnup was able to survive an attack from Brent Sword then lauch an attack of his own to gain half a minute by the finish. Sword was well warmed up from his ride to the start from Glenamaggie or was he a little tired? Renehan - like a good vintage wine - ever improving, was not far behind the youngsters.
In B grade, Wain, still on the comback trail from injury, was able to keep mountain climbing specialist Doc Baker at bay whilst Mackintosh pulled in a new PB for the familiar Licola climb.
In C grade David Murray was too strong for the field with cries of B grade for you next week ringing in the hills.

The president Shane Dove thanked Dean Mackintosh for the race committees choice of Hill climb course.

A total of 7 riders contested the handicap race in warm conditions, a tail wind on the way out and head wind to work into upon return.
The course was 22 km - out to crooked lane, turn around and return. Gary, John and Phil worked hard and like a smooth oiled machine given a what proved to be generous 5 minutes start on the chasing four riders.
